Chloe Budnicki

Chloe, our beloved dog and family member passed away on June 10, 2023 in the comfort of our home with her whole family present. We got Chloe as a puppy when she was only 8 weeks old on February 2 nd , Groundhog’s day! She was a Lab/Rottweiler mix and we were told before we arrived that all the puppies with Rot markings were already spoken for. When we arrived to take our pick from the liter, Chloe came right to Mason. She had the Rot markings and Stephen negotiated and was able to talk the family into letting us take her home even though another family was supposed to pick her up that evening. We immediately felt the connection and she grew up with our son Mason who was only 3 years old at the time. Since her sister was not able to come with us to pick her out, we let Makensie name her and she chose the name Chloe, the name of our cousin’s child, her best friend, at the time! From that moment on, she was part of the family. As a puppy, she had tons of energy and was a lot to handle especially living in a small house with a small yard. Eventually, we were able to move to a house with 5 acres and let her roam freely for the last half of her life. She had a pond to stay cool and loved her freedom even though she would never go far. She also loved squeaky toys and stuffed animals. She always got the squeaker out of all the toys and would tear the stuffing out of our kids stuffed animals when they left them on the floor. We couldn’t keep a dog toy in the house without it being destroyed within 5 minutes, but at least that was better than having furniture chewed or an expensive item ruined! Chloe was our safety and security, our protecter. She would alert us if someone she did not know came to the house. She would sleep with Mason every night, she would stay in the office with her dad when he worked from home every day, and would protect her mom and sister when they would walk down the road and back several times a week regardless of how hot it was. She always greeted us when we got home and she was outside and when we recently bought a new vehicle, she barked when we came down the driveway until she realized it was us. The Amazon driver would bring her treats, so he felt safe dropping of packages. She looked intimidating but was the most kindhearted dog as long as you were not a threat to her family. Chloe lived much longer than expected for her breed and even in the end she did not want to leave us. She fought to stay with us and did not pass until our whole family were able to get together and say our goodbyes. In her last hours, she did not whine or show any pain even though she was hurting. She was staying strong for us and it brings us comfort knowing we were able to bring her home and she was comfortable and her whole family was there when she passed. She loved us unconditionally and was Mason’s best friend. We will remember her when we are watching a family movie and someone lets off an SPD like she often did, that was distinctively hers, or when we hear the bark in our dreams in the middle of the night to let her out, or when we come home to be greeted by her at the car when she was patiently waiting for us to arrive. These memories will be cherished and she will forever be missed. A piece of her remains in all of our hearts as she taught us all patience, unconditional love, and loyalty.
